Aritar Village Tourism

Nestled within the enchanting embrace of East Sikkim, in the heart of the Himalayas, lies Aritar, a gem within the Indian state of Sikkim, gracefully presiding over the Rongli Sub-Division. This picturesque haven is a testament to nature's artistry, its beauty gracefully unfurling on the Himalayan fringes.

Perched at a lofty 1,498 meters above sea level, Aritar stands sentinel on the far eastern border of Sikkim, cradled by the majestic embrace of Mount Kanchendzonga. This idyllic realm exudes an air of isolation, a tranquil refuge far removed from the bustling pace of the world.

For those seeking vantage points to admire nature's grandeur, Aritar offers several attractions:

  • Lampokhari Lake: Amidst this serene landscape, the Lampokhari lake, one of Sikkim's oldest natural lakes, beckons. Beyond its tranquil shores, it now extends an invitation to adventurers, offering the thrill of boating at an altitude of 4,600 feet (1,400 meters). It stands as the sole lake in Sikkim where such an experience awaits.
  • Dak Bungalow: In the heart of Aritar, a historical treasure awaits in the form of the Dak Bungalow, lovingly constructed by Sir James Claude White in 1895. Known also as Ari-Bangla, this site once held Sikkim's first treasury and birthed the Sikkim Police, its legacy echoing through time.
  • Kali Khola Falls: Nature's grandeur further unfurls at Kali Khola falls, a majestic cascade near the Rorathang-Rongli road, plunging gracefully from a towering height of approximately 100 meters.
  • Changey Waterfall: Changey waterfall, another natural wonder, graces Aritar's landscape with its rippling elegance. Standing at a height of about 50 meters, it enchants visitors with its mesmerizing beauty, nestled in proximity to the Lampokhari lake.
  • Shri Viswa Vinayaka Mandir: Delving deeper into the region's cultural tapestry, the Shri Viswa Vinayaka Mandir, also known as the Ganesh Mandir, emerges as a spiritual haven. Situated in Rhenock, Pakyong district, it is an architectural marvel dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Here, 51 countenances of Lord Ganesha grace the temple, each standing 12 feet tall, escorting pilgrims towards the temple's sanctum. Adding to the intrigue are colossal statues depicting the mythological battle of Daemon vs. Gods during the 'Samudra Manthan.' The presence of a Shivling and a statue of Hanuman further enrich the spiritual experience within the hallowed halls of the Viswa Vinayak Temple.
In Aritar, where time unfolds at its own gentle pace, every facet is a brushstroke on nature's canvas, an invitation to explore the Himalayan beauty, culture, and spirituality that cradle this pristine realm.
