YUKSOM GZONGRI TREK

Yuksom Dzongri Trek is a short and high altitude trek that takes you to the Dzongri meadow, a place where you can see stunning views of the Kanchenjunga range. The trek starts from Yuksom, the
first capital of Sikkim, and passes through dense forests, alpine meadows, rhododendron gardens and glacial moraines. The trek offers glimpses of 14 other big summits, including Pandim, Kabru, Rathong and Talung. The highlight of the trek is the sunrise view of Kanchenjunga from Dzongri top (4200 m), a sight that will leave you spellbound. The trek takes about 6-7 days and is best done from March to June or September to November.

  • After reaching Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station, you will be picked up and transferred to Yuksom.
  • Enjoy the scenic drive along the river Teesta and Rangit, with a beautiful view of mountains, rivers, forests, and beautiful villages.
  • Once you arrive in Yuksom, check-in at the guesthouse and take rest.
  • The hike starts from Yuksom, the first capital of Sikkim, where you can see some of the historical and religious sites, such as the Norbugang Chorten, the Dubdi Monastery and the Coronation Throne of Norbugang.
  • The hike follows the main road in the north direction, and then comes out of the gorge and reaches near the right bank of the Ratong Chu river, which is a tributary of the Teesta river.
  • The hike crosses four bridges over the river, and then ascends steeply towards the north-west direction, passing through some small settlements, such as Bakkhim and Phedang.
  • The hike takes about 5 to 6 hours to complete, and covers a distance of about 14 km.
  • The hike passes through dense forests of rhododendron and magnolia, which are the state flowers of Sikkim, and offer a colorful and fragrant scenery.
  • The hike ends at Tsokha, a small village with a Tibetan settlement, where you can see some wooden houses and a monastery. You can also enjoy the view of the snow-capped peaks of Pandim, Narsing and Tenzing Khang from here.
  • You can have dinner and stay overnight at a campsite near Tsokha.
  • The hike starts from Tsokha, the village where you stayed overnight, and continues to ascend in the north direction, passing through some wooden houses and a monastery.
  • Trek for about 2 km (1 hour) through a gradual climb that passes through forests and fields. You will see the beauty and the simplicity of the rural life of Sikkim, as well as the variety of the crops and the flowers that grow in this region.
  • The hike follows a trail that passes through a dense forest of rhododendron, which are in full bloom in spring and summer, and offer a colorful and fragrant scenery. You can also spot some birds and animals, such as pheasants, yaks and langurs, along the way.
  • The hike reaches Phedang, a clearing in the forest, where you can take a break and enjoy the view of the mountains. It takes about 3 hours to reach Phedang from Tsokha.
  • The hike continues further from Phedang, passing through more forest and meadows, and reaching Dzongri, a high-altitude pasture land. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to reach Dzongri from Phedang.
  • The hike ends at Dzongri, where you can set up a campsite for dinner and overnight stay. You can also enjoy the panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks of Kanchenjunga, Kabru, Pandim, Rathong and Kokthang from here.
  • The day starts with a leisurely breakfast at the campsite, where you can relax and enjoy the view of the mountains and the meadows.
  • The day also offers an optional hike to the Dzongri Top, a viewpoint that is located about 1 km and 200 meters above Dzongri. It takes about an hour to reach Dzongri Top from Dzongri.
  • The hike to Dzongri Top is worth the effort, as it offers an incredible panoramic view of various peaks, such as Pandim, Kabru, Kanchenjunga, Narsingh, Koktang and Ratong, which are some of the highest and most beautiful peaks in the world.
  • The hike to Dzongri Top also offers a magnificent view of the Singalila Ridge, which is a mountain range that separates Nepal from Sikkim, and runs along the border of both countries.
  • The day ends with a dinner and a night stay in the tents at the campsite near Dzongri.
  • The hike starts from Dzongri, after breakfast, and follows a trail that descends gradually from the high-altitude pasture land to the lower valley.
  • The hike takes about 4 to 5 hours to complete, and covers a distance of about 10 km.
  • The hike passes through the same scenic spots that you saw on your way up, such as the rhododendron forest, the Phedang clearing and the Tsokha village, but with a different perspective and light.
  • The hike lets you enjoy the pristine and diverse nature of Sikkim, where you can spot various birds and animals, such as pheasants, yaks and langurs, along the way.
  • The hike ends at Tshoka, where you can stay overnight at a campsite near the village. You can also enjoy the view of the snow-capped peaks of Pandim, Narsing and Tenzing Khang from here.
  • The hike starts from Tshoka, after breakfast, and follows a trail that ascends and descends along the Ratong Chu river, crossing several bridges and streams, and passing through dense forests and meadows.
  • The hike takes about 5 to 6 hours to complete, and covers a distance of about 14 km.
  • The hike passes through the same scenic spots that you saw on your way up, such as the Bakkhim and Phedang settlements, the waterfalls and valleys along the way, and the historical and religious sites in Yuksom.
  • The hike lets you enjoy the pristine and diverse nature of Sikkim, where you can spot various birds and animals, such as pheasants, yaks and langurs, along the way.
  • The hike ends at Yuksom, where you can check into a guesthouse, and relax after your trek. You can also enjoy the view of the snow-capped peaks of Kanchenjunga, Kabru and Rathong from here.
  • Have breakfast and checkout from the hotel.
  • Board the transfer vehicle to Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station.
  • Travel to your next destination or return home.
