PHOKTEY DARA TREK

Phoktey Dara Trek is a new and offbeat trek in West Sikkim that offers 360 degree views of the Himalayan ranges, including Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu and many more. The trek
starts from Uttarey, a small village near the Nepal border, and ends at Phalut, a high altitude meadow on the Singalila ridge. The trek passes through pine forests, bamboo groves, cardamom fields and orchards. The trek also gives you a chance to see some rare and exotic animals like red panda, black bear and Himalayan tahr. The highlight of the trek is the Phoktey Dara ridge, a place where you can see the sunrise and sunset over the Himalayas in all their splendor. The trek takes about 7-8 days and is best done from March to May or October to December.

  • After reaching Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station, you will be picked up and transferred to Uttarey.
  • Enjoy the scenic drive along the river Teesta and Rangit, with a beautiful view of mountains, rivers, forests, and beautiful villages.
  • Spend the night at Uttarey.
  • Start from Uttarey Valley, a picturesque valley that is located in the West Sikkim district of Sikkim, and head towards Hageypani, a campsite that is located at an altitude of 9,800 feet.
  • Trek for about 5-6 hours through a moderate climb that passes through villages, monasteries, forests and meadows. You will see the beauty and the diversity of the culture and the nature of Sikkim, especially the Maneybong Kagyud monastery, the Mangheem Thegu, the Sherpa village, the fern species, the dense rhododendron forests, and other rich flora and fauna of Sikkim.
  • Reach Hageypani, a campsite that offers a panoramic view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Simvo and Mt. Sinolchu. You will feel the awe and the wonder of being close to some of the highest mountains in the world.
  • Spend some time to admire the views and take photos from Hageypani, where you can see the sunrise and the sunset over the mountains. You will also have a chance to interact with other trekkers and share your experiences.
  • Camp at Hageypani, where you can enjoy the comfort and the warmth of your tents and sleeping bags.
  • The trek starts from Hageypani, a village in Sikkim, and ends at Kalizar, a meadow near the Rathong river.
  • The trek covers a distance of about 15 km and takes 5-6 hours to complete.
  • The trek involves ascending from 9,800 feet to 11,800 feet above sea level, so you need to be physically fit and acclimatized to the altitude.
  • The trek passes through lush green forest with colorful Rhododendron flowers, which are the state flower of Sikkim.
  • The trek also offers panoramic views of some of the highest peaks in the world, such as Mt. Kanchendzonga (8,586 m), Mt. Pandim (6,691 m) and Mt. Jupino (5,930 m).
  • The trek ends at Kalizar, where you can stay overnight at a nature camp and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings.

  • Singalila Top is the highest point in Sikkim, at 12,100 feet above sea level, and offers a breathtaking view of not only Mt. Kanchendzonga, but also other Himalayan giants, such as Mt. Makalu, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Everest and the Dhaulagiri range.
  • Singalila Top also offers a glimpse of the rural hamlets of Nepal, which lie across the border.
  • Both Phoktey Dara and Singalila Top are ideal places to witness the sunrise and sunset over the Himalayas, which create a magical effect on the mountains and the sky.
  • You can spend a night at a nature camp near Kalizar, where you can enjoy the starry night and the fresh mountain air.
  • The hike starts from Kalizar, after breakfast, and follows a trail that ascends gradually to Chewabhanjyang, a pass that marks the border between India and Nepal.
  • The hike takes about 4-5 hours to complete, and covers a distance of about 12 km.
  • The hike passes through green meadows, pine forests and rhododendron bushes, and offers views of the Singalila range and the Kanchendzonga massif.
  • The hike also passes through some villages, where you can see the traditional lifestyle and culture of the people, who belong to the Limbu and Sherpa communities.
  • The hike ends at Chitree, a small settlement with a monastery and a school, where you can stay overnight at a nature camp.
  • You can enjoy the evening by watching the sunset over the mountains, or by visiting the monastery and learning about the Buddhist faith.
  • The drive starts from Chitree, after breakfast, and follows a road that descends gradually to Uttarey, a small town in West Sikkim.
  • The drive passes through lush valleys, terraced fields and orchards, and offers views of the Singshore bridge, the second highest suspension bridge in Asia.
  • The drive also passes through some towns and villages, where you can see the local shops and markets, and buy some souvenirs or snacks.
  • The drive ends at Uttarey, relax after your trek and overnight stay.
  • You can enjoy the rest of the day by exploring the town, visiting the nearby attractions, or simply resting.
  • Have breakfast and checkout from the hotel.
  • Board the transfer vehicle to Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station.
  • Travel to your next destination or return home.
